On July 22, with the dismantling of the construction of the facade, an important phase of the rehabilitation work of the Calç Tapiró building, located on Llovera Street numbers 6, 8 and 10 in Reus, was closed. It is a building with the cataloged facade, which has hosted in the past emblematic establishments in Reus such as ‘Calçats Tapiró’ or ‘Jofré’.
Likewise, next Wednesday, July 24, the removal of the perimeter fence of the work will be carried out, which occupied a strip of three meters of street and which was a very important affectation within the main commercial axis of the city, which will recover its normality. The short-term calendar will be completed with the opening of the Tezenis establishment located in the commercial premises of the building on Friday, July 26.
Second phase of rehabilitation
Beyond small specific reviews on the façade, from this moment on, the works will enter a second phase and will be developed entirely inside the building, where the planned homes will be executed.
The work has an extraordinary technical complexity since the existing structure has been completely replaced, without affecting the facade and the staircase, which are protected patrimonially and have been rehabilitated following specific restoration techniques. With the façade works, a large number of construction elements have been removed that had adulterated their architectural composition over the years so that the building once again looks original.
The building was in very poor condition and had a very high risk of collapse, despite having maintained its commercial activity until the last moment. In fact, some preliminary technical work had not been carried out in the face of the risk they pose to the structure.
In addition, the discovery during the first days of demolition of a hidden basement forced to modify the planned intervention and the entire foundation of the building has had to be micropiloted.
